Mucho Gusto in Spanish: 4 Alternatives That Native Speakers Use All The Time

If you want to sound like a native Spanish speaker, please don’t just say ¡mucho gusto!

Yeah, it does the job, but if you really want to blend in and speak Spanish at a high level, better use the following 5 alternatives instead! 

I’m Spring Spanish teacher Paulisima, and THIS is your first alternative:

1. Encantada, Encantado (Delighted)

Other than being a great chunk of Spanish, it’s a great opportunity to practice the genderization of adjectives in Spanish.

Hola Paulísima. Soy Sam Heughan. Me he estado muriendo por conocerte. 
(Hello Paulisima. I’m Sam Heughan. I’ve been dying to meet you.)

Encantada, Sam Heughan. 
(Delighted, Sam Heughan.) 

Hello, Robert Pattinson. Mucho gusto, yo soy Paulísima. 
(Hola, Robert Pattinson. Nice to meet you, I am Paulisima.)

Encantado.
(Delighted.) 

2. Encantada de conocerte (Lovely to meet you)

Esta es como la anterior, pero un poco más elaborada. “Encantada de conocerte”. Es otro gran chunk de español. (This is like the previous one, but a little more elaborate. “Nice to meet you”. It’s another great Spanish chunk.) 

A phrase that Spanish speakers use all the time and that because it doesn’t change, every time you use it, you can be sure you’re saying it correctly.

Beyoncé, me gustaría presentarte a Paulísima, la maestra de Spring Spanish. 
(Beyoncé, I’d like to introduce you to Paulisima, teacher at Spring Spanish.)  

Encantada de conocerte, Paulísima. 
(Lovely to meet you, Paulisima.)

Igualmente, Beyoncé.
(Likewise, Beyoncé) 

Encantada de conocer-TE. (Pleased to meet YOU.) If we were meeting a bunch of people, then we say: Encantada o encantado de conocerLOS. (Pleased to meet you ALL.) 

Paulísima, te presento a mis primos. 
(Paulisima, I introduce you to my cousins.) 

Encantada de conocerlos 
(Pleased to meet you all.) 

¡Encantada de conocerlos a ustedes, también! 
(Pleased to meet you all, too!)

3. Muchísimo gusto (Nice to meet you)

Muchísimo gusto. Attention here to the: “ísimo” ending. It makes the word mean its most extreme version. Mucho – muchísimo. Like much and VERY much. Just like in my name: Paula, Paulísima. 

Hola Paulísima, mucho gusto. Soy Ali Wong. 
(Hola Paulísima, nice to meet you. I’m Ali Wong.) 

¡Ali Wong! ¡Muchísimo gusto!
(Ali Wong! So nice to meet you!)

Siéntete libre de añadir un “sí” más para mayor énfasis. (Feel free to add one more “sí” for greater emphasis)

Hola Paulísima, mucho gusto. Soy Ali Wong. 
(Hola Paulísima, nice to meet you. I’m Ali Wong.) 

¡Ali Wong! ¡Muchísisimo gusto!
(Ali Wong! So nice to meet you!)

4. Un placer (A pleasure)

Un placer. (A pleasure.) Y también le podemos agregar la palabra “conocerte”. ¿Te acuerdas? Ya la aprendiste en este video. (And we can also add the word “conocerte” (meet you). Do you remember? You’ve already learned it in this video.)

Un placer o un placer conocerte. (A pleasure or a pleasure to meet you.) 

Mucho gusto, Paulísima. 
(Nice to meet you, Paulisima.)

Un placer, Beyoncé. 
(A pleasure, Beyoncé.)

Beyoncé, muchísimo gusto. 
(Beyoncé, nice to meet you.)

Un placer conocerte, Paulísima. 
(A pleasure to meet you, Paulisima.)

El placer es mío.
(The pleasure is mine.)

¿¡Se dieron cuenta!? (Did you notice!?) I added the response: El placer es mío. (The pleasure is mine.) You can use this anytime someone says “un placer” to you. Una vez más: el placer es mío. (One more time: the pleasure is mine.)

Otra variación usando “placer” es “¡qué placer conocerte!” ¡Qué placer conocerte! O, también puedes decir simplemente “¡qué placer!”
