1. Question about your family in Spanish

(With whom in your family do you get along better and why?)

This question makes your Spanish-speaking friend think about their family. And as you probably know, Latinos are known for their strong family ties.

Ask it like this:

¿Con quién de tu familia te llevas mejor y por qué?
(With whom in your family do you get along better and why?)

(Well, the truth is that I get along with everyone, but I think I have more affinity with my sister Indira, because she is the closest in age.)

Me llevo bien con… (I get along well with…)

This is a great chunk of Spanish to learn right now. It means “I get along well with…”

Coming up with “your own” phrase to say “I get along with” in Spanish would slow you down, so it’s better to learn a phrase that natives speakers use invariably for it.

There’s a treasure of a list of super valuable chunks in this description. ¡Bájala ahora mismo! (Download it right now!)

Oh, another great chunk to ask for clarification when someone tells you a name is…

(With whom in your family do you get along better and why?)

(I think I have more affinity with my sister Indira, because she is the closest in age.)

ÂżMe puedes repetir su nombre, por favor?
(Can you repeat her name, please?)

Indira.
(Indira.)

Indira.
(Indira.)

Exacto.
(Exactly.)

2. Asking about people in Spanish

¿Qué es lo que más admiras de…? (What do you admire the most about …?)

Once they responded with whom they get along with best, you can ask them a little more about that person.

People feel great when talking about people they love. So, use this in your favor, asking them more about their favorite people.

(What do you admire the most about Indira?)

¡Híjole! ¡Muchas cosas!
(Gosh! A lot of things! Her generosity, her way of being, her joy. Oh, and she’s also beautiful!)

Other things you could say about that person to answer the question:

¿Qué te gusta más de ella? (What do you like the most about her?)

SpanishEnglish
Su carácterTheir character
Su personalidadTheir personality
Su sentido del humorTheir sense of humor

3. Talking about good times in Spanish

Cuéntame algo que te haya hecho reír últimamente. (Tell me something that has made you laugh recently.)

Who doesn’t like to laugh?

This question is perfect because it’ll make the other person share with you something very important, what type of humor they have.

Maybe they won’t remember right away, so help them remember, asking specifics.

Cuéntame algo que te haya hecho reír últimamente.
(Tell me something that made you laugh recently.)

Mmmmm…

(A meme, a joke from a stand-up comic, something you saw.)

Ah, sĂ, mira este meme.
(Oh, yeah, look at this meme.)

(You see, now I’m laughing, which automatically improves my mood, which in turn makes this video much more memorable than others. You see, my questions work!)

4. ¿Qué cosas te encantaban de niño? (What things did you love as a child?)

This is a great question to make the other person travel back in time…

Watch how people usually react with an expression of nostalgia.

¿Qué cosas te encantaban de niña?
(What things did you love as a child?)

Uuuuy…

(As a child I loved to play Barbies, make them clothes, and do experiments with my chemistry set.)

A mĂ de niño – o niña – me encantaba… (As a child, I used to love…) and then you add something like:

SpanishEnglish
Jugar futbol.Play soccer.
Salir a jugar con mis amigos.Go out to play with my friends.
Jugar video juegos.Play video games.
Salir a pasear en bicicleta.Go for bike rides.
Ver caricaturas.Watch cartoons.

Tell us in the video’s comments what you used to love, using:

A mĂ de niño – o niña – me encantaba… (As a child, I used to love…)

5. Asking about beautiful things in Spanish

(What have been the most beautiful things or places you have seen in your life?)

This is our favorite question! Why?

Because it makes us think about traveling, which is one of the greatest pleasures in life!

Even if the other person is not an avid traveler…

Tu conversación se va a sentir mucha más agradable si trae consigo imágenes positivas. (Your conversation is going to feel much nicer if it brings positive imagery.)

(What have been the most beautiful places or things you have seen in your life?)

Uuuuuy…

¡Uy, muchos!
(Oh, so many! About places, the Swiss Alps, the beach Xcacel, the rice fields of Banahue. And about things, well, I think the smiles of the people I love the most.)

Ay!

Do you notice how open now Paulisima feel towards you!

¡Gracias por hacerme pensar y recordar cosas tan lindas! (Thank you for making me think and remember such beautiful things!)
