Cooking Spanish Vocabulary: All The Ingredients You’ll Need When Cooking
Have you been invited by your Spanish-speaking friends or maybe by a date to some cooking at home? Then you better make sure your cooking in Spanish game is on point!Â
I am Spring Spanish teacher PaulĂsima, a taco fanatic, and here is all the cooking Spanish vocabulary and chunks you need to speak about cooking in Spanish at your next cooking event with friends or family.
1. Ingredients and equipment
We’re making a 2-course dinner. A creamy mushroom soup and a Mexican beef stir fry, called alambre!Â
First, let’s have a look at all the ingredients and equipment we are going to need:
For the mushroom cream we’re going to need:

2. Getting our ingredients ready
First of all, we have to cut all of our ingredients!
¿De qué tamaño? (What size?)
I’m going to ask you to cut a bunch of things, and you want to know what’s the right size. It’s really important when cutting ingredients to aim for symmetry, we want each piece to be close in size to all the other pieces, ok? Es muy importante cortar las cosas del mismo tamaño. ¡No me hagan enojar!
(It is very important to cut things the same size. Don’t make me get angry!)
I’m worse than Gordon Ramsey.

So we’re working with the ingredients for the soup so we are going to need to cortar los champinones a la mitad. (cut the mushrooms in halves.)

(Peel one garlic clove.)

Ahora vamos a preparar los ingredientes para el alambre. Primero que nada, (Now we’re going to prepare the ingredients for the alambre. First of all…)

I probably use this chunk: Me ayudas a… (Would you help me to…?) a thousand times per day! I’m not one to be afraid to ask for help! Chunks do wonders for your confidence when speaking a foreign language.
3. Time to cook
So now we have our ingredients ready to be used. ¡Ahora sĂ, a cocinar! (Now, it’s time to cook!)Â
To start making a mushroom soup, pay attention because these instructions will work with pretty much any vegetable, not only mushrooms.
The idea here is to cook the vegetables, making them soft. Be careful not to burn anything. Â

“Pusimos los ingredientes para la sopa en la ollita, agregamos primero el aceite, no inmediatamente la mantequilla porque la mantequilla se quema muy rápido.”
(We put the ingredients for the soup in the little pot, we first add the oil, we don’t add the butter immediately because butter gets burned easily.)
That’s why we add vegetable oil first.
No dejes que se queme. Muy bien muy bien, ya ven se están suavizando. Vamos bien, vamos muy bien. (Don’t let it burn. Very well very well, You can see they’re softening. We’re doing well. we’re doing very well!)
Now that your veggies are cooked, we’re going to take a little bit of water, and we’re going to blend it all, including the cube of chicken stock. This is the easiest version, of course if you have natural stock, use it!

After blending everything together we’re going to pour it into the pot. We’re going to add the water and we’re going to leave it there for about 15 minutes in medium heat, stirring sporadically with the ladle.)Â
To make the alambre, empezamos por poner aceite en el sartén y vamos a agregar un pedacito de cebolla. (We start by putting the oil into the pan and we add a little piece of onion.)
When the onion starts browning, we remove it and then we add the meat.

Then we add the meat ¡Con cuidado! (Be careful!)
When the meat starts browning that’s when we add el chorizo y el tocino.

Once the meat is cooked, entonces después de eso, agregamos todos los vegetales y ya que estén un poco cocinados, agregamos al final el queso y ahà le apagamos al sartén para que con el calor que queda en el sartén, el queso se derrita.
(Then after that, we add all the vegetables and once they’re somewhat done, at the end we add the cheese and that’s when we turn off the flame so the cheese melts down with the remaining heat.)
