5 Ways to Learn German with this FREE supersmart AI TOOL (Chat GPT)
DENISA
Vanessa, ich habe etwas Neues für dich,, um besser Deutsch zu lernen.
(Vanessa, I have something new for you in order to learn German in a better way.)
VANESSA
Echt? Was denn?
(Seriously? What is it?)
DENISA
Es heißt ChatGPT. Es ist ein Chatbot, der alles ändert.
(It's called ChatGPT. It's a chatbot that changes everything.)
Hallo! Ich bin Denisa von Spring German. Whether you know this crazy ChatGPT already or not, this video will help you understand the best ways to use it, specifically to improve your German. Los geht’s!
1. Use ChatGPT for vocabulary, definitions and explanations
Let’s start with the simplest use of this app. We’ll leave the most exciting one for last, so stay tuned.
DENISA
Ok, eine Sache, die du machen kannst, ist, deinen Wortschatz verbessern.
(Okay, one of the first things you can do, is improve your vocabulary.)
VANESSA
Also wie ein Wörterbuch?
(So, like a dictionary?)
DENISA
Ja, aber mit mehr Möglichkeiten. Du kannst zum Beispiel nach einem Wort, seinen Definitionen und Synonymen fragen. Der Bot erklärt dir sogar, wie du das Wort benutzt.
(Yes, but with many more possibilities. For example, you can ask for a term along with its definition and synonyms. The bot will even explain to you how to use the word.)
VANESSA
Wirklich? Mal sehen.
(Really? Let's see.)
Insert of example. Question: Can you tell me what “Hochhaus” means in German, plus synonyms and how to use it?
Like Vanessa, I’m shocked by this. Ich muss das kurz verarbeiten (I have to get over this for a second). In the meantime, why don’t you click that link in the description and get our free Essential German chunking kit? I think you could even ask the bot for more examples with those chunks.
2. Use ChatGPT for grammar practice
One of the things that I’m loving the most, is that you can practice grammar. It gives you examples or explanations for every subject that you need.
DENISA
Eine andere Sache: Du kannst nach spezifischer Grammatik fragen und sie dir erklären lassen.
(Another thing: You can ask for specific grammar and let it explain to you.)
VANESSA
Nein.
(No.)
DENISA
Doch. Versuche es mit einem Thema. Irgendeins.
(Yes! Try with a subject. Whatever you want.)
VANESSA
Zeiten zum Beispiel?
(Tenses for example?)
DENISA
Klar! Und stelle Fragen, wenn etwas unklar ist.
(Of course! And ask questions about it if something is not clear to you.)
Insert of example. Question: Can you explain the simple present in German? Follow up question: Can you give me examples of everyday expressions in this tense?
Chunk Alert!
From the chunk “wenn etwas unklar ist” (if something isn’t clear), I want you to get “unklar sein” (to be unclear). You can say it as soon as you don’t get something in a situation, mostly in educational context. You can adapt this and affirm things like: Danke für die Erklärung, jetzt ist es mir klar. (Thanks for the explanation, now it is clear to me.) Don’t forget our free essential chunking kit in the description.
Lass uns sehen, was der Chatbot noch zu bieten hat, um besser Deutsch zu lernen.(Let's see what else the chatbot has to offer to learn German in a better way.)
3. Ask the chatbot to correct a text
Das ist ideal, um das Schreiben zu üben.(This is ideal for practicing writing.) You can write a full text in German and then ask it to correct it.
Insert of example. Question: Can you correct this text for me, please? Text: Mein Name Vanessa. Ich spreche Deutsch für zwei Jahre lang. Ich lerne viel mit Spring German. (My name is Vanessa. I have been speaking German for 2 years. I learn a lot with Spring German.)
Here is an advice: Be as specific as you can about what you want. Zum Beispiel (For example), using the expression “correct mistakes” helps focus on actual mistakes. If you say something like “improve”, it might not only correct mistakes, but also enhance style and vocabulary. Was uns zu Nummer vier bringt. (Which brings us to use number 4.)
4. Use the chatbot to enhance your style
This thing is really amazing. But there are, of course, things it cannot do. We’ll talk about that in second. First…
VANESSA
Ich sage immer dieselben sechs Wörter.
(I am always saying the same 6 words.)
DENISA
Du kannst eine Liste machen und den Bot nach besseren Alternativen fragen.
(You can make a list and ask the bot to give you better alternatives.)
VANESSA
Also versteht ers auch Ausdrücke?
(So it also understands style?)
DENISA
Genau.
(Exactly.)
Insert of example. Question: Is there a better expression meaning the same as “immer” (always)?
Im Moment (at the moment), as of yet, it cannot recognize audio or images. Therefore there’s no listening or speaking practice. But who knows, someday it might be able to practice that with you, too.
5. Practice speaking
This is where, for me, things reach a new level. Du kannst ganze Gespräche über ein Thema deiner Wahl führen.(You can have full conversations about any topic you choose.)
DENISA
Das Beste ist, du kannst mit dem Chatbot einfach reden, als wäre ers eine echte Person.
(Best of all, you can easily talk to the chatbot, as if it would be a real person.)
VANESSA
Ja klar. Ich stelle Fragen und der Bot beantwortet sie.
(Yes, sure. I ask questions and the bot answers them.)
DENISA
Das stimmt, aber du musst nichts fragen. Du kannst einfach über ein Thema auf Deutsch reden.
(Yes, but you don't have to ask anything. You can simply talk to it about any topic in German.)
Insert of example. Question: Lass uns Deutsch sprechen üben. (Let's practice speaking German) Subject: die Natur (Nature).
So, are we impressed or what? Do not hesitate to try this out and find even more ways to ask it to help you out. I’m sure it’ll surpass your expectations.
